Nicholas W. Skyles

Nicholas is senior designer at the Chicago office of Son&Sons. He is a multi-disciplinary designer who believes that problem-solving and creative thinking are central to the best design. He values thoughtful, smart solutions that have the ability to span multiple mediums. He has a great understanding of designing for web, motion and mobile devices in addition to traditional print mediums.

He has worked for Michael Bieruit at Pentagram in New York and for The New York Times—helping them to develop and implement their first-ever brand identity guidelines. While at The Times, Nicholas managed and designed projects for a diverse set of clients including NYTimes.com, T Magazine, LinkedIn, Neilsen, TriBeCa Film Festival, The International Herald Tribune and The New York Times.

He was vital in concepting and creating a series of short videos directed by Sundance Award-Winning Director Douglas Keeve that featured various celebrity personalities such as Cynthia Nixon, John Leguizamo, Dr. Mehmet Oz, Lynn Redgrave, Isaac Mizrahi and Padma Lakshmi discussing their love and interactions with NYTimes.com.

Nicholas received a B.A. in design art from Drury University in Springfield, Missouri before graduating from Portfolio Center in Atlanta, Georgia. Recently, he has created visual identities and designs for The Coca-Cola Company, United Airlines, Innate Motion, Public Art Fund, McDonald’s and the documentary film Pelada, which premiered at the 2010 South by SouthWest Film Festival.

Nicholas relocated to the midwest to start the Son&Sons Chicago office where he now lives with his wife, Clare. They live in the West Loop with an imaginary dog and an Italian scooter named Jasper.
