On Confident Leadership (1:42)

MARIL MACDONALD:
So what final words of advice do you have for leaders that are really trying to engage their audiences of stakeholders in this incredible environment we’re in today?

PATRICIA HARRISON:
Stay strong.

MARIL MACDONALD:
Yeah.

PATRICIA HARRISON:
Do whatever it takes.  Be strong because at the end of the day it’s going to be up to you.  So do whatever keeps you away from negativity and by that I don’t mean good advice that, you know, may not agree with what you’ve just said.  But people who are constantly telling you it can’t be done, it’s never been done, or who really, uh, who aren’t part of the vision that you have.  So you, you’ve got to be kind of brutal, uh, about yourself.  Uh, who you let in, who you, uh, who you trust, uh, and the things that you do apart from work that restore you, uh, whether it’s volunteering or whether it’s, it’s, uh, being outside.  You need to be around something much bigger than you are.  For me it’s an ocean.  Uh, you, you really need to restore yourself.  You need to have a, I believe a spiritual side.  You need to have something that’s more than you and that keeps you strong and if you’re not strong you won’t be able to do the job.
